Both my heart and my shopping cart are full today as I got the email in my inbox this morning that Anthropologie has announced a new brand collaboration with Liberty of London, with a focus on creating the home line of my dreams! The line includes furniture, bedding and home goods, but also stationery items, candles and kitchen things, from the very affordable to some special splurges like upholstered sofas.
Since 1875, Liberty of London has been creating fabrics, mostly floral, many of them iconic, and their library of fabrics and prints is vast, growing and best when mixed and matched. I have been a fan of this brand since my early college days when Liberty of London had a store at the Georgetown mall (I spent more time perusing Liberty scarves than hanging in bars, I have to say). Now, as a mother of two girls, I have been pretty much been surrounded in a sea of Liberty prints as pretty much all of my favorite brands (Bonpoint, Makie, Mabo, Soor Ploom) use Liberty fabrics in their lines. My favorite “adult” brands like Marni and Isabel Marant have also incorporated Liberty of London prints in their lines. The appeal of Liberty prints is very broad and I have always figure it was only a matter of time before they expanded from fashion into home.
Also, as some of you may recall Target did a brand collaboration with Liberty of London several years back and it was the beginning of a long list of several best selling, Target.com-crashing short term collaborations. Target pioneered the formula of working with artists and brands in this way – a brand collaboration formula that still works today.
Liberty of London could not have picked a better partner to launch a home collection than Anthropologie, especially for furniture items. I am so excited to see the actual products and I hope this brand collaboration evolves over the long term.
I used to say to my friends – I would literally wallpaper my rooms in Liberty of London if I could. Now, we literally can. Thanks Anthro!
